Today I am writing for four hours straight as a part of a writing marathon at school. I came with a few specific ideas in mind and have already managed to finish two articles in an hour (they pay $15 each). Now that I am finished my freelance work for the moment, I realize that it is important to take time in the day to write for fun, whether it’s a poem, story, or an article that will pay less but focuses on a more interesting topic.

I had a very successful interview last night for a part-time tutoring job, which I will use to supplement my income and improve my teaching skills. I am not certified as a teacher, but since I’m pretty good with words, it looks like they are willing to hire me anyway. It comes with a lot more freelance work if I get the job, including the possibilities of grant writing and book editing. Most importantly, I’d be making a nice amount of money while helping people.

After I am done my writing marathon, I will head home to have dinner with my mother and stepdad and to see Rosie, the family pet (white chihuahua). Later tonight I should be able to get some more work done, but I do want to avoid burnout. I also have some items to complete for a LARP, some of which involve writing, so I will take that opportunity to work on those things.

Writing for fun and blogging is kind of like a reward for writing the topics that make me view some writing as work. It’s ok to see things like that as work, because that’s what it is–a paycheck–but now I have the opportunity, as a reward, to sit down and write about all the things I was pondering while I was writing for money.
